OLIVIA PENN

Hello there!

I am a creative soul who loves to read, cook and share foods with my friends, and indulge in Taylor Swift's music while I am working out.

Hello there!

UX Design

I chose to get my masters in UX design because I want to make the world an easier, more accessible place for all users regardless of age or ability. I have pursued both of my degrees because I truly enjoy helping others and trying my best to see things from their point of view. During my time in UX I have designed and researched 2 mobile/iPad applications.

My UX Team

One of the highlights of my UX career up until now was the valuable time that I spent working with my teammates on Task Buddy.

Dovetail for Affinity Mapping

Using dovetail made sorting information and identifying key insights easy. I am always looking for new tools that can make the design process more efficient.

Illustration

During the creation of the TaskBuddy App, I learned how to use procreate to design animations to make the application more engaging.

Art Education

I made my classroom a place where students could come to develop and refine their artistic skills as they made things with their hands to soothe the stress in their heads. I emphasized to my students that not all artists are born with natural abilities, but that many of us carefully crafted and honed in on our skills for years. During my time as an art teacher I was awarded the Game Changer award and was nominated for the New Teacher of the Year award.

Kehinde Wiley Self Portraits

4th graders studied the artist Kehinde Wiley. They drew self portraits and designed a pattern filled background that was

Virtual School

During the pandemic I adapted all of my lessons to a virtual format and hosted google meet lessons with my students. I also made an at home art kid for each of our 700 students with paint, paper, and a sketchbook.

Tea Party

All of my 2nd graders sculpted and glazed mugs. Then we all went outside and had an iced tea and lemonade party.

Check out some fun at home art activities that I posted for my students.

Art History

I decided to get a minors in art history when I realized not only how juicy the world of art history is, but also how much we can learn from what artists did in the past. One of my favorite classes was a film study on the work of Alfred Hitchcock because of his work and his personal life. I spent some time working at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and presented at a conference on the work of Loie Fuller. You should seriously check her out.
